NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has announced that artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming the role of software engineers, with the company planning to deploy AI agents across all departments to maximize productivity. In a recent interview, Huang stated that engineers now prefer building AI agents over simply writing Python code, noting that the proportion of actual coding has decreased while focus has shifted to agent design, benchmarking, and establishing safety guardrails[1]. He defined AI agents as systems that break down a single goal into multiple steps to execute tasks autonomously, marking a shift from simple automation to a new work domain requiring both creativity and technical skill[1].

Huang strongly rejected concerns about a decline in white-collar jobs, asserting that AI does not merely replace workers but creates a surge of new job opportunities. He emphasized that the workload required to apply AI to the real world is immense, arguing that AI is currently driving job growth rather than reduction[2]. Addressing employment fears, he labeled them "complete nonsense," explaining that the explosion in productivity creates a positive cycle that increases the demand for engineers within companies[2]. NVIDIA's strategy extends beyond supplying high-performance chips to building an ecosystem where global software and hardware run on its computing infrastructure, with plans to integrate AI PCs, on-device AI, robotics, and autonomous driving[2].

The market has already reacted significantly to Huang's statements, with his identification of specific semiconductor and software firms as next-generation growth stocks triggering sharp price increases and spawning the term "Jensen Effect." This influence underscores his broader vision of deploying tens of millions of AI assistants across enterprises, a concept he has championed since his previous keynote speeches[1]. Huang's message that "AI is now a profit generator and GDP generator" redefines AI not as a mere technology trend but as a critical production infrastructure for corporate profits and national economic growth[1]. As AI agents become the new digital workforce, Huang predicts that IT departments in every company will eventually evolve into the HR departments for these AI agents[4].
