A vehicle caught fire early Saturday during a street takeover at Avalon Boulevard and East Imperial Highway in South Los Angeles, prompting a response from police and firefighters.
Authorities said the fire was reported at 3:34 a.m. at the intersection. The takeover involved illegal street blocking activity, and one participating vehicle ignited as the event was underway.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division responded to the scene, and officials said the vehicles involved had begun leaving and dispersing by the time authorities arrived. Firefighters worked carefully because the flames posed a risk of reaching the fuel tank.
No injuries have been confirmed, and police and fire officials were controlling the scene. Firefighters extinguished the blaze while police assisted with crowd control.
