The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired left-hander Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in a major trade, adding the two-time American League Cy Young Award winner to an already star-studded roster. The move was reported by MLB.com and other outlets, though the club had not yet made an official announcement.[1][5][17]

Skubal learned of the trade during Saturday night’s Tigers game against the Athletics, which Detroit won 8-6. After the game, he said he was excited to join the Dodgers but also felt a mix of emotions about leaving the team that drafted and developed him in 2018.[5]

With Skubal’s arrival, the Dodgers add another frontline arm to a rotation that already includes Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow when healthy. The Dodgers’ starting staff entered the trade deadline with a major league-best 3.36 ERA, and the club has already been carrying one of baseball’s highest payrolls.[5]

Skubal’s addition underscores Los Angeles’ push for a third consecutive World Series championship. The Tigers, meanwhile, parted with one of the game’s top pitchers as the trade deadline approached.[1][5]
