With Israel’s general election now two months away, opposition parties and civic groups have set up a dedicated election monitoring center to guard against possible fraud and attacks on electoral fairness.
According to The Financial Times, concerns are growing inside Israel that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is trailing in opinion polls, could try to undermine a fair vote to hold onto power. In response, opposition groups and civil society organizations have formed a so-called “war room” to monitor polling stations nationwide and receive reports of illegal activity.
The groups say their biggest concerns include AI-generated fake news, efforts to stir up security fears, and the possibility that the ruling coalition could refuse to accept the election result. They are also watching for possible disruptions by right-wing activists on election day and for violence by Jewish extremists in Arab communities.
The monitoring center warned that if Netanyahu loses, he could still trigger a constitutional crisis by claiming the election was stolen. Israel’s general election is scheduled for October.
