Los Angeles County health officials are warning people who visited Universal Studios Hollywood on July 26 that they may have been exposed to measles. The infectious person was at the theme park from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to county public health officials.[1][2]
Officials said visitors should check whether they have had measles or received the recommended MMR vaccine, which offers strong protection. Those who are unvaccinated or unsure of their immunization status are at higher risk, and anyone who develops symptoms should contact a health care provider before going in person.[1][2]
Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, and a rash. Health officials also urged pregnant people, infants under 12 months old and people with weakened immune systems to contact a doctor as soon as possible, even if they do not have symptoms.[1][2]
Measles is a highly contagious viral respiratory illness that spreads through the air, and one infected person can expose many others. County health officials also said California is seeing more measles cases this year than last year, and that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent infection.[2][3]
