A man was shot and killed at Hart Park in Orange, and police arrested a suspect after a chase, authorities said. Orange police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Pedro Amarillaslares.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at the park in the 300 block of East River Avenue, according to police. They found the victim dead at the scene.
Police said Amarillaslares was seen leaving the area with a handgun and was arrested after a pursuit. He was on parole at the time of the shooting for possession of a loaded firearm and a controlled substance, and he also has prior convictions for robbery and firearm-related charges.
Investigators said the case appears to be an isolated incident and that Amarillaslares and the victim knew each other beforehand. Amarillaslares is being held at Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The victim’s identity will be released by the Orange County coroner’s office after next-of-kin notifications are completed.
