President Donald Trump signed two new executive orders at the White House on the 6th aimed at again restricting birthright citizenship, marking a second attempt after a previous order was invalidated by the Supreme Court. The new order bars automatic citizenship for children of people classified as “alien enemies,” members of terrorist organizations, and lobbyists acting on behalf of foreign governments, and directs the State and Homeland Security departments to draft regulations targeting so-called birth tourism.

White House aide Stephen Miller said at the signing ceremony that “the practice of birth tourism and birth tourism will be banned” with the order. The administration is also moving to tighten immigration controls more broadly, according to the Korean report.

In a separate development, U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes on the 6th lifted a stay that had blocked the Trump administration from ending Temporary Protected Status for about 350,000 Haitians. The move follows a June Supreme Court decision allowing the TPS termination, and Haitian TPS holders now face losing legal work authorization and the risk of deportation.

The report also says U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services began tightening review guidelines on the 5th for green card and citizenship applications, allowing immediate denials without a request for more evidence if required documents are missing or eligibility is not sufficiently proven. It also says the State Department is moving ahead with a visa-bond program that could require some applicants denied immigrant visas over public-charge concerns to post bonds of up to $250,000.
