A man was shot and killed by police Friday afternoon in Downey, authorities said. The shooting happened around 3:15 p.m. in the 8300 block of Fontana Street, near 8331 1/2 Fontana St., according to the report.
Downey police said the incident began when an armed man confronted officers. During that confrontation, an officer fired, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police secured the area and continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities said they were still reviewing whether anyone else was injured and had not released additional details.
The scene remained under police control as the investigation continued.
