A string of shootings across Michigan, Virginia and Kentucky over the weekend left at least seven people dead and several others wounded, underscoring the continuing toll of gun violence in the U.S.
The deadliest case unfolded in rural Missaukee County, Michigan, where gunfire began Saturday morning at a home in Lake Township. When police arrived, they found three people dead — a 45-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy — and later searched for 39-year-old Chad Hickman as the suspected gunman.
During the search, authorities found a 53-year-old man dead at another location. Hickman and a 29-year-old woman were later found dead in woods near Whitlock Lake, bringing the Michigan death toll to six.
Elsewhere, a shooting near a Virginia State University dormitory early Saturday left five people wounded. In Lexington, Kentucky, one person was killed and four others injured during an outdoor event at Charles Young Park.
