Southern California’s brief break from extreme heat is expected to end this week as a strong high-pressure system builds over the region. The National Weather Service says temperatures will rise well above seasonal norms, with heat risk increasing Tuesday away from the coast.
From Wednesday through Friday, some inland areas could see daytime highs reach 105 degrees. Downtown Los Angeles is forecast to top out between 90 and 95 degrees during that stretch, while the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley are expected to be hit hardest.
Weather officials say there is more than a 50% chance heat advisories will be issued for parts of the valleys and mountain areas. The hot, dry conditions are also expected to increase wildfire danger in inland communities.
