Residents of Victor Heights, a neighborhood south of Dodger Stadium with sweeping views of downtown Los Angeles, say a once-quiet overlook has been overwhelmed by crowds, noise and traffic. The intersection of Figueroa Terrace and Centennial Street was once known mostly to film crews and photographers, but social media has turned it into a popular sightseeing spot.
Neighbors say the area now draws visitors day and night, making normal life difficult because of late-night noise and traffic congestion. They said the problem is especially serious for a 3-year-old child living directly in front of the site who has undergone multiple surgeries and depends on oxygen, with complaints that illegal parking, drinking and smoking in the early morning hours are adding to the disruption.
Frustrated residents gathered Wednesday evening at a local restaurant to discuss possible responses, including a “Victor Heights Residents’ Day” event. They also said they raised the issue at a neighborhood public safety meeting last week and asked city officials for help, but have not heard a clear solution.
A staff member from Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez’s office said the office is working with relevant city departments on ways to limit visitors and maintain safety and order. Residents, meanwhile, are considering forming a neighborhood council and a Neighborhood Watch group as they look for their own fixes.
