A 52-year-old San Jacinto woman is now facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with a DUI crash in Perris that killed an 8-year-old girl and injured five other people. The case stems from a collision at Ramona Expressway and Rider Street on Aug. 15 at about 5:36 p.m.
Investigators identified the driver as Silvia Corona, who was initially arrested on Aug. 17 on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing injury. She was booked into custody and later released after posting bail the next day.
The crash involved two vehicles and left five people injured in one car, including Camila Leon, who died after being taken to the hospital. Her father and younger brother were reported in critical condition, while her mother had stabilized. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured.
On Aug. 20, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office added a second-degree murder charge and reissued the arrest warrant based on the investigation. The case remains under investigation.
