Covered California, the state health insurance marketplace, says dental premiums will rise by an average of 6.2% next year, with the increase taking effect Jan. 1, 2027.
The agency said the higher rates reflect rising dental care costs and a sharp increase in the number of people using dental services. Enrollments in dental plans through Covered California have climbed 85% since 2020, driving up total claims paid by insurers.
In 2027, five insurers — Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, DeltaQuest, Delta Dental of California and Humana — will offer eight dental plan options through Covered California, the same number of plans available this year.
For Korean Americans and other Covered California customers, the change means it will be important to review renewal notices carefully and compare premiums before coverage renews next year.
