Two residents were killed and the suspected gunman died after a shooting Wednesday afternoon at a high-rise apartment building in downtown Minneapolis, authorities said.
The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. near Loring Park, according to the Minneapolis Police Department. Officers entered the building within minutes of the call and, after finding victims inside, heard additional gunfire and expanded the search to upper floors.
Three responding officers were injured during the operation, including two who suffered gunshot wounds. All three were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and later stabilized, police said.
Inside the building, one resident was found dead at the scene and another died after being taken to the hospital. The suspect also was found dead, though police have not yet said how he died. Witnesses told investigators the suspect had previously displayed a gun inside the apartment building and had behaved in a threatening manner, prompting complaints to management.
The FBI and Minnesota state authorities are assisting in the investigation. Police urged nearby residents to stay away from the area as the inquiry continues.
