Hunter Biden is drawing fresh attention in Washington after saying he may have to consider a 2028 presidential run, depending on support from radio host John Catsimatidis. In an interview on WABC’s The Cats Roundtable, he first said he had not made up his mind, then added, “If I get your endorsement, I may have to.”
The comment came during an interview that was scheduled to air Sunday morning. Because Catsimatidis is a conservative billionaire and a supporter of President Donald Trump, the remark has been widely interpreted as partly tongue-in-cheek. Still, it marked a shift from Hunter Biden’s earlier response, when he said he had not decided whether to run.
Hunter Biden also spoke about the Democratic Party’s potential 2028 field, saying the party has “an incredible bench.” He mentioned Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, whom he said he personally loves. Newsom has publicly said he is considering a White House run after the 2026 midterm elections.
Other Democrats often mentioned in early 2028 speculation include Sen. Jon Ossoff, former Vice President Kamala Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Hunter Biden did not formally announce a campaign.
