After several days of intense heat and humidity, Southern California is finally expected to get a break, with temperatures set to ease starting this weekend. A low-pressure system approaching from the Pacific Northwest will bring a noticeable cooldown across Los Angeles and the rest of the region, returning conditions to near normal next week.
Until Friday, the hot weather continues. Los Angeles and Orange counties are forecast to reach 92 degrees with a low of 73, while the Valley and Inland Empire are expected to hit 96 degrees. Desert areas, including Palm Springs, could climb to 108 degrees.
Cooling begins Saturday, when daytime highs in Los Angeles and Orange counties are expected to fall into the mid-80s, then settle into the 70s and 80s next week. In the Valley and Inland Empire, temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-80s by Sunday and stay there through midweek. Coastal areas will see highs around 80 on Friday before slipping into the mid-70s over the weekend.
Mountain communities are also expected to turn cooler, with Friday highs near 79 degrees and overnight lows around 56. Sunny conditions are forecast to continue there through the weekend as temperatures edge lower.
