The Santa Monica Police Department has released body-camera footage and a briefing video tied to a fatal police shooting on Aug. 22 in Palisades Park. The department said the release is meant to provide objective context during the early stages of the investigation.
Police said officers were responding around 12:50 p.m. to a domestic violence call in the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue when they were taking statements from witnesses. At that point, a man in his 40s who was not connected to the original call ran toward officers while holding a knife.
Officers repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon and tried to create distance, police said. When he kept advancing, one officer fired. The man was given emergency aid at the scene and taken to a hospital, where he died. Police said multiple knives were recovered at the scene.
Authorities said the bodycam release is not the final word on the case and that the investigation remains ongoing until a final determination is made.
