Bruce Davis, a former follower of cult leader Charles Manson who was convicted in two 1969 killings, has died while incarcerated in California. The Solano County coroner’s office confirmed to ABC News on Monday that Davis died Friday at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville.
Davis had acknowledged helping in the killings of musician Gary Hinman and stuntman Donald “Shorty” Shea. At a 2014 parole hearing, he said he wanted to be “Charlie’s favorite guy,” and testified that he held a gun while Shea was stabbed and Hinman was attacked with a sword.
Davis was not involved in the Manson Family’s most notorious murders, including the 1969 killings of actress Sharon Tate and six others. He had been denied parole repeatedly over the years, and California governors Gavin Newsom, Jerry Brown and Arnold Schwarzenegger all blocked his release.
Manson died in prison in 2017 at age 83.
