A new California gubernatorial poll shows Democrat Xavier Becerra widening his lead over Republican Steve Hilton as the race heads into the final stretch with fewer than two months to go.
The Public Policy Institute of California poll, released this week, found Becerra with 60% support, compared with 38% for Hilton. That is a 4-point increase in Becerra’s margin from the institute’s poll a month earlier.
The survey was conducted Sept. 4-10 among 1,745 California residents. Analysts said voter attention is rising as the campaign season gets into full gear after Labor Day. Sixty-five percent of respondents said a candidate’s plans on affordability and the cost of living would be the most important factor in how they vote.
California voters can find information about voting and related procedures on the state secretary of state’s official voter information portal.
