President Donald Trump said he is nearing a decision on whether to take major action against Iran, warning that “very big things” could happen soon. In remarks relayed by Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump said he was in a “deciding mode” and outlined options that included destroying Iran, letting its economy “rot,” or reaching a deal to end the conflict.
Trump also warned that Iran “better behave” and suggested his question was whether to “blow the entire nation up,” according to the report. He made similar comments earlier this week in an interview with Axios, saying a major decision was coming on whether to attack and wipe out Iran’s leadership or not.
Iran responded by saying it had received information that the United States had decided to resume military action against it. The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which coordinates Iran’s military command, said in a statement that the U.S. had made that decision with the approval of some regional countries and during a meeting in Europe.
The developments add to already high tensions between Washington and Tehran. For Korean-American readers in Los Angeles, the issue matters because shifts in U.S. policy toward Iran can affect Middle East stability, U.S. military posture and global energy markets, all of which can ripple into American politics and the broader economy.
