On May 8, a significant press conference was held at the LAPD Olympic Police Station with Radio Seoul reporter, Captain Brian O’Connor, and Senior Officer Alex Cho.
Captain O’Connor emphasized that the Wilshire-Western area and Washington Boulevard are two key zones where the Olympic Police Station focuses its observation and patrol efforts. Though only six months into his position, Captain O’Connor demonstrated a deep understanding of Koreatown’s importance and showed strong commitment to enhancing security and preventing crime in the area.
Officer Alex Cho, fluent in Korean, has been leveraging his language skills to actively communicate with Koreatown property owners and merchants to strengthen local safety measures. “Active participation from the Korean community is the key to effective crime prevention,” Officer Cho stated, encouraging local residents to attend events hosted by the police department.
Captain O’Connor also stressed the importance of hearing from Korean residents. “We need to know your concerns so we can provide appropriate services,” he said, immediately agreeing to a request for increased patrols in the Western and Olympic area. The Captain promised to report on the increased patrol frequency and its effects at their next meeting.
Under Captain O’Connor’s community-focused leadership, a Neighborhood Watch Program meeting will be held today (May 21) at 6 PM at Seoul International Park on Olympic Boulevard. Captain O’Connor will attend personally to listen to feedback from Korean residents.
Community safety cannot be achieved through police efforts alone. Safety in Koreatown can only be maximized when police and residents work together. The active participation of Koreatown residents and business owners is urgently needed at this critical time.
