“The price of apathy toward politics is to be ruled by the lowest of men.”
— Plato
When Plato wrote those words more than two thousand years ago, few imagined they would echo so clearly across the sunbaked streets of Los Angeles in 2025. But here we are. The ancient warning has come to life.
While law-abiding, tax-paying citizens focused on building careers, raising families, and keeping their heads down, something else was happening: a quiet political revolution. One policy, one vote, one unchecked appointment at a time, progressive power structures have embedded themselves into every level of LA’s local governance.
The results have now arrived. Wrapped not in ribbons but in graffiti, dysfunction, and bureaucracy, they are being delivered to residents like unwanted gifts. The city, once seen as a model of American prosperity, now resembles a cautionary tale.
The Gifts No One Asked For
Gift 1: A City Where the Homeless Are Protected and Taxpayers Must Endure
Encampments spread across sidewalks, needles litter playgrounds, and public safety feels like a thing of the past. But criticism is met with moral scolding: “They are human too,” say city officials. Yes, they are. But what about the dignity of the residents who followed the rules?
Gift 2: A $949.99 Free Pass for Theft
Thanks to Proposition 47, retail theft under $950 is practically decriminalized. Store owners fend for themselves. If they act, they risk lawsuits. If they don’t, they suffer losses. And politicians? They blame the system—just not the one they built.
Gift 3: Federal Immigration Agents Out, Undocumented Residents In
In LA, cooperation with federal immigration enforcement is condemned. Yet, city resources continue flowing into sanctuaries and aid programs for undocumented migrants. Lawful residents watch their neighborhoods change, wondering who the city really serves.
Gift 4: Classrooms Turned into Political Laboratories
Core subjects take a backseat to social theory. Children are introduced to complex identity politics before they master basic math. Achievement scores plummet. Parents are labeled intolerant if they ask for curriculum transparency.
How Did This Happen?
The answer, unfortunately, is simple: silence.
Voter turnout dwindled. Community meetings were ignored. School board elections went uncontested. Into that vacuum stepped a loud, coordinated political class. They seized control. And now they govern—not always wisely, not always fairly, but certainly unchecked.
It Doesn’t Have to Stay This Way
Plato’s warning isn’t just a quote for T-shirts. It’s a call to action. Silence is no longer an option. Not in Los Angeles. Not in this moment.
If you love this city—its promise, its people, its future—then speak. Vote. Watch. Hold them accountable.
We’ve already paid the price of silence.
Now it’s time to reclaim the city.
